***The Importance of Washing Your Hands!***
It is very important to prevent yourself from getting sick! To start out here is a home-made joke!
Why did the chef lose his job?
He added too much sa"vanilla" to the shake!
You should always wash your hands consistantlywith soap and warm water. This will wash away germs you have picked up from
other people, contaminated surfaces, or animals.
What happens if you do not wash your hands frequently?
You pick up germs from other sources and then you infect yourself when you
* Touch your eyes
* Or your nose
* Or your mouth.
Many people catch colds is by rubbing their nose or eyes after their hands have been contaminated with the cold virus.
Also try to keep your germs to yourself! You also can spread germs...
* directly-by touching people
* indirectly-by touching surfaces other people touch
And before you know it, everybody around you is getting sick!
The important thing to remember is that, in addition to colds, some pretty serious diseases -- like hepatitis A, meningitis,
and infectious diarrhea -- can easily be prevented if people make a habit of washing their hands.
When should you wash your hands?
You should wash your hands often. Probably more often than you do now because you can't see germs with the naked eye or
smell them, so you do not really know where they are hiding.
* Before, during and after you cook or prepare food
* Before and after every meal, also at school take a trip to the bathroom to wash up or bring in hand sanitizer(liquid
or wipes). I must tell you personally, I did this all year so far and it works! YOU MUST REMEMBER TO WASH EVERYDAY AT LUNCH
OR YOU WILL GET TERRIBLY SICK FROM LACK OF AMMUNITY FROM THEESE GERMS!
* After handling animals or animal wastes
* When you hands are dirty
* More frequently when someone in your home is sick.
What is the correct way to wash your hands?
* First wet your hands with the warmest water you can stand(Warm or hot water kills germs more than cold water).
* apply liquid or clean bar soap
* Next rub your hands vigorously together and scrub all surfaces.
* Continue for 10 - 15 seconds or about the length of a little tune. It is the soap combined with the scrubbing action
that helps dislodge and remove germs.
* Rinse Thoroughly and dry
It is estimated that one out of three people do not wash their hands after using the restroom. So these tips are also
important when you are out in public.
Washing your hands regularly can certainly save a lot on medical bills. Because it costs less than a penny, you could
say that this penny's worth of prevention can save you a $50 visit to the doctor.
Wash Your Hands — Again!
People are constantly catching colds and the flu is common during some parts of the year. It seems like one of the inevitabilities
of life. But is it?
You can be infected by the air you breathe, the food you eat, and people you live with or work with. Germs are everywhere.
It may not be your fault: Remember some people have a weak immune system so do not get discouraged if you get sick more than
others do.
There are many diseases that can't be cured, and in some cases we don't even know what causes them like cancer. But most
health professionals agree you can substantially reduce your risk of illness by the simple act of washing your hands often.
Dirty hands can be cured. That sounds simple, but most people aren't very consistent at washing as much as they should.
What's the Problem?
According to studies done by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):
Only about two thirds of American adults wash after using the toilet - women significantly more often than men. Fecal
matter carries a variety of serious infectious diseases.
***Also it is a good idea to put toilet paper down or a cover on the toilet seat of a public bathroom. This lessens the
chance of you getting a illness.***
One in four parents do not wash their hands after changing their baby’s diaper which runs the risk of them,
their spouse, and children.
Fewer than half of us wash after handling our pets or cleaning up after them.
Only one in three wash after sneezing or coughing.
Not even one in five wash after handling money, a major carrier of disease germs.
In one study, children who washed their hands four times a day missed 51 percent fewer school days due to upset stomach
and 24 percent fewer days due to respiratory illness than those who washed less.
***Make sure you wash and come to school to comply with our President Bush's No Child Left Behind Program***
One in three E.coli outbreaks is caused by poor personal hygiene (hand washing) by food handlers.
So wash em!
